RIZY hybrid shaft for your Miura hybrid

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

QUESTION: Hello,

I am thinking of purchasing a 17 degree Miura hybrid. I currently have Nippon Shaft R flex 85 gram on my iron set. My swing speed is about 90 mph and my 6 iron is my 150 yard club.

Please recommend a shaft for the hybrid. I am interested in max carry, also the lighter the shaft the better.

Thank you, PK

ANSWER: Hi PK,

My first question is- do you have success with strong lofted hybrids? 17 degrees is roughly equal to a #1 or #2 hybrid and typically you need quite a bit of power to achieve good carry. Golfers with a 6 iron club for their 150 yard distance have enough power to play most any golf course, but speed is not their strong suit, which is usually required for a golfer seeking to play with a 17 degree hybrid.

If you would like to pursue this search, I will give you some ideas. Most often I suggest that golfers use the same shaft in their hybrids as in their iron clubs. This promotes uniformity and consistency and solid contact. However, in your case, I would take your best guess on the lightest and longest shaft that you feel like you can control. Lighter and longer gives you the best chance of achieving maximum speed, and thus maximum carry. Of course, this is a double-edged sword, as lighter and longer can also lead to problems of being too light to feel and too long to control.

You might consider our 65 gram RIZY hybrid shaft model in an R flex. It is great at getting the ball to RISE EASY, and achieve maximum carry. We have had many golfers report success with this new RIZY series for hybrids. Contact any of our centers for for more information and help with achieving the optimal installation for your needs.
